Cox Enterprises commits $100 million to Ducks Unlimited, Wetlands America Trust Ducks UnlimitedJim Kennedy, left, and Adam Putnam at the announcement Wednesday.MEMPHIS, Tenn. – May 30, 2024 – Ducks Unlimited announced that longtime corporate partner Cox Enterprises is establishing a fund to support conservation in honor of Jim Kennedy, chairman emeritus of Cox Enterprises and chairman of the James M. Cox Foundation. The $100 million gift from the newly established fund will go directly towards Ducks Unlimited’s land trust, Wetlands America Trust, to help conserve North America’s prairie region.The prairies are a lush and productive ecosystem of wetlands and grasslands and a critical breeding ground for millions of ducks and geese. Conservation of these grounds helps hundreds of plant and animal species and improves the quality of life for people by increasing water quality and availability.“It has always been important to me to leave the world better than I found it, and I was so honored when Alex proposed the idea of creating this fund,” said Kennedy. “Ducks Unlimited and Wetlands America Trust are great partners to conserve and restore our prairies for future generations.”Jim Kennedy has been a volunteer with Ducks Unlimited for over 50 years, has served on its board of directors and was Wetlands America Trust’s founding president.   • Conservation is the planned protection, restoration, and management of a natural resource to ensure its sustainable use and enjoyment by current and future generations.

  • Ducks Unlimited since 1937 has conserved more than 15.5 million acres of wetlands and grasslands that provide essential habitat for breeding, migrating, and wintering waterfowl. The need is urgent: more than 50% of historical wetland area across the United States has been drained, degraded, or converted to alternative uses.

  • Ducks Unlimited conservation falls into three categories. Protecting healthy intact wetlands with conservation easem*nts or purchases, enhancing existing wetlands or wetlands that have been degraded, and restoring wetlands in areas where they historically existed but have been drained or hydrologically altered.

  • Every Ducks Unlimited conservation project is completed with support of other entities.
