COVID-19 Information - Peoria International Airport (2024)

The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria, which operates and manages General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport (PIA) and Mt. Hawley Airport (3MY), is following the guidance of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Peoria County Health Department (PCHD) as well as our airlines and tenants to help protect our passengers from COVID-19 (coronavirus).

COVID-19 FAQs

Is quarantine required if I fly in and out of PIA?

Quarantine is not required at this time. After landing, simply keep moving to your destination as you would typically.

Are you conducting health screenings?

The Peoria International Airport is currently not conducting passenger health screenings.

Do I need to show that I am COVID Negative?

The Peoria International Airport is not currently requiring passengers to show a negative test result. If your final destination or connecting hub is requiring proof, you will need to follow the guidelines set by that airport and/or airline.

Do you perform testing at the airport?

We do not perform testing at this time. You can contact your local health department to see what testing sites are available, or check with your local pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens or Hy-Vee.

Do I need to wear a face covering?

In accordance with TSA Security Directive (SD) 1542-21-01; Security Measures – Face Mask Requirements. The SD is issued to implement the January 21, 2021, Executive Order on promoting measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by travelers within the United States and those who enter the country from abroad. The SD also supports enforcement of theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Ordermandating masks issued on January 29, 2021.

The following measures have been instituted as of January 31, 2021:

Federal law requires wearing a mask at all times in and on the airport and failure to comply may result in removal and denial of re-entry.

Refusing to wear a mask in or on the airport is a violation of federal law; individuals may be subject to penalties under federal law.

Effective April 18, 2022

  • Effective immediately, TSA will no longer enforce it’s Security Directive and Emergency Amendment requiring mask use on public transportation hubs. TSA also rescinded the new Security Directives that were scheduled to take effect, April 19, 2022. CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks indoor public transportation settings.
  • Currently each airline and and other airports are setting their own guidelines as it pertains to mask wearing during and after a flight. In addition, some international flights may still require masks, we recommend checking the cities and countries you’re traveling to and through for their latest updates and travel requirements.

Safety Measures taken at PIA

  • TSA is allowing one liquid sanitizer container, up to 12 ounces per passenger, in carry-on bags until further notice. (see below for link)
  • Continue daily antiviral cleaning throughout the facility in accordance with CDC.
  • Signage posted indicating use of face masks and maintaining social distancing from other passengers.
  • Social Distancing Markers in ticket counter lines to enhance social distancing between passengers.
  • Personal protective shields are installed at every ticket counter, rental car station and airline gate.

Food and Beverages at PIA

Food and beverages are available before and after the security checkpoint at The Junction. In addition, the gift shop provides snack options, post security and 24-hr Vending Machines are located in the Meet and Greet area on the public side of the airport terminal as well across from Gates 7 and 8 on the air side of the airport terminal.

PIA Shuttle Service

Shuttle service has been suspended at this time. For shuttle assistance please call PIA Airport Operations, (309)697-8272, ext.110, or pick up a white courtesy phone.

Social Distancing

Proper social distancing guidelines of six feet or more are being followed at the airport including barriers at airline ticketing and gate desks and floor decals to mark proper social distance.
