8 climate protesters arrested during Congressional Baseball Game: Police
Eight climate protesters were arrested on Wednesday after being tackled on the field during the Congressional Baseball Game, U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement. The self-described "youth-led group," Climate Defiance, took credit for the protest and shared videos on X of protesters rushing the field, calling the "Chevron-sponsored" game "unconscionable." During the second inning, over half a dozen protesters hopped the fence to the field, wearing shirts stating, "END FOSSIL FUELS."

Usher advocates for diabetes awareness at Capitol Hill
Eight-time Grammy award winner Usher Raymond made a surprise appearance on Capitol Hill Wednesday, urging lawmakers to make Medicare's Diabetes Prevention Program more accessible to Americans. "Today, just talking about type 1 diabetes and early screening for type 1 diabetes," Usher, the Super Bowl LVIII performer, told ABC News after his meetings. Usher's son, Cinco, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in 2014.

ACLU files federal complaint against new Biden asylum rule
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Texas Civil Rights Project and other civil rights organizations have filed a federal complaint challenging a recent executive order from President Joe Biden, which limits access to asylum. On Tuesday, June 4, Biden issued a proclamation that restricts access to asylum for migrants who cross into the United States in between ports of entry.

Pentagon downplays Russian warships arriving in Cuba
The Pentagon is downplaying Wednesday's arrival of four Russian Navy ships in Cuba as U.S. officials acknowledge that U.S. Navy ships "actively monitored" the Russian ships as they made their way to a port of call in Havana. At the on-camera Pentagon press briefing, spokesperson Sabrina Singh downplayed the Russian naval flotilla's arrival in Havana noting that it's happened multiple times over the years but acknowledged that U.S. military assets had been tracking the ships on their way to Cuba.

Competitive eating legends Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi to face off in Labor Day hot dog eating contest
Two of the most famous names in competitive eating, Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest champions Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, will go head-to-head in a "winner-takes-all" hot dog eating matchup to air live on Netflix on Labor Day, Sept. 2, the streaming platform announced Wednesday. The matchup, "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef," will be the first time the pair has faced each other since 2009. "Retiring for me will only happen after I take him down one last time," said Kobayashi, a six-time Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Champion, who is colloquially referred to as the "Godfather of Competitive Eating."

House Republicans vote to hold Garland in contempt over Biden interview audio
House Republicans on Wednesday afternoon passed a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over audio of President Joe Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur on his handling of classified documents. Rep. David Joyce of Ohio was the only Republican who voted against the contempt resolution. Speaker Mike Johnson called the outcome "a significant step in maintaining the integrity of our oversight processes and responsibilities."

Body of skier missing since May recovered from Washington park
Park rangers have recovered the body of a dead female skier from the base of Pebble Creek's Moraine Falls above Paradise at Mount Rainier National Park. Rangers had been searching for the missing skier after she was last heard from on May 18, before she set out on a ski tour above Paradise. The park's contract helicopter found an unresponsive person who appeared to have fallen approximately 200 feet to the base of a waterfall, according to the National Park Service.

It has been thousands of years since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius left the Roman city of Pompeii in ruins, but the ancient archaeological site continues to offer new findings. An ornate "blue room," distinguished by depictions of female figures on the cerulean-painted walls, was newly excavated by archeologists, according to a press release from the Archaeological Parks of Pompeii earlier this month.

Oklahoma girl becomes 1st pediatric patient to undergo robotic deep brain stimulation
An Oklahoma girl has become the first pediatric patient in the world to have robotic deep brain stimulation performed on her, two hospitals have announced. The patient, 8-year-old Karliegh Fry, suffers from rapid-onset primary dystonia, a neurological movement disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions. Karleigh's condition initially left her paralyzed, unable to walk, eat or sit up on her own.

Gaza protest, vandalism targets Palestinian UN Mission in New York
A New York City protest tied to the war in Gaza prompted a large police response early Wednesday and the closure of a block on the city's Upper East Side, where the Palestinian Mission to the United Nations was vandalized and demonstrators littered the street with leaflets smeared with red paint and encouraging the intifada, according to police. Other vandalism incidents suspected to be linked to the protest were discovered in four other areas of the city overnight, including at the homes of the Jewish director of the Brooklyn Museum and several of the museum's board members, officials said. Also, a video surfaced Wednesday showing apparent protesters chanting antisemitic threats on a crowded New York City subway car this week.

On Tuesday — not two weeks after former President Donald Trump was convicted of falsifying business records — President Joe Biden's 54-year-old son Hunter was convicted of illegally purchasing a firearm by not disclosing his drug use on a federal form. First of all, a lot more Americans were paying attention to Trump's trial than to Biden's. According to a YouGov/CBS News poll from June 5-7, only 24 percent of U.S. adults said they had heard or read a lot about Biden's trial, and another 38 percent said they had heard or read some about it.
