Delnor Special Care Nursery

If your baby needs special medical attention after birth, high-level resources are just steps away at theDelnor Special Care Nursery (SCN). To better serve you and your baby's needs, neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago3provide round-the-clock, on-site coverage for the Special Care Nursery and delivery services at Delnor Hospital.

The SCN is designated as a Level II-E nursery with extended capabilities by the State of Illinois. That means the SCN is fully equipped to care for low birth weight infants (2 pounds, 12 ounces or greater), premature infants (30 or more weeks gestation) and infants on mechanical ventilators. In addition to the neonatologists, your baby will receive quality care from a team of nurses and other health professionals with advanced training in intensive care treatment for newborns.

Milk Depot

Delnor Hospital Labor and Delivery offers a human milk depot with the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. Pre-approved breastfeeding parents can drop-off their extra breast milk. Delnor Hospital then uses the breast milk to help save the lives of premature and sick babies whose breastfeeding parents cannot produce enough milk of their own.

To donate breast milk, the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes must first screen you. To start this process, call 847.262.5134. You must complete a phone screen, a medical history interview and a blood draw. If you are approved, the milk bank will assign you a donor number. Then, you can call Delnor Hospital at 630.938.8878to set up a drop-off time.
